Another suitcase in another hall, I like to shop inside a shopping mall...or something like that. "I hate Andrew Lloyd Webber", he said, rowing his band out of ever working with the aforementioned genius/tosspot.
It's getting a bit like that line. It's right at the end of the trip, we're in Sweden, staying at the TownsvillescandicradissonSASphoenixGrandHotel. The capital is of course Stockholm. Ha Ha, just a joke, everyone knows it's Washington DC. I aim to please, would you aim too please... I'm actually going off my trolley at present, you just get like that sometimes on the road, don't know what you'd call it, so without further ado, here is the result of our Scandinavianish tour. Denmark 4 - Sweden 3. Right, 'bye! We played the KB Halle in Copenhagen, but, the night before, we went to dinner with those nice people from Universal, where we were presented with gold discs for FITLC, they did a fine job for us, especially that Steve, what a good old fashioned Scandic name, 'cept he's from Devon, and follows the Pilgrims (Plymouth FC, currently languishing near the bottom of Nationwide division 3). Nice to meet you, well done geezer... It was actually quite odd to get the disc, as FITLC, whilst our latest album, isn't up there with some of the others in terms of what Quoism is, still, you don't bite the hand that feeds... Quite revealing I am at the moment, it's definitely a bit of road madness setting in. Lovely city Copenhagen, in fact it's wonderful...wonderful. I say, why don't I write a song, Quite nice, Quite nice, Copenhagen. My cabinet is made indeed of eggplant. The gig was good. Not great, but good. I was telling the aforementioned Steve, over a pint the night before, that you don't f*** with us live, the records at times don't get the old motor running (Perfect Remedy? Who said that?), but live, well, you know what I mean... It was sold out, 3005 billy, (I checked), and they knew how to rock. big time.
We then had a change of fortune at Odense, it's just that either that the billy don't know the ritual of a rock show, or they've got 3 cups of beer in each hand, and therfore can't clap. By the way, we played Hold ya back in Copenhagen... which was nice. Willhelm did seem to be a little the worse for wear at Odense, lots of, but tired and emotional, which doesn't help that much. That was Denmark on a Friday.. Denmark on a Saturday, say no more squire, tons of really shitfaced persons. It's up to you, as Massers. Parfitt and Bown wrote, you pay your money, you take your choice. Seems quite odd to me, but it's up to you, it's just a bit of a pisser when all you can remember of a show is how ripped the punters were... It's been a country of 3 halves, this 'ere Denmark. We did Aalborg on the Sunday, a real concert hall, (the other gigs were in Sports halls). I think the building must have been a church in an earlier incarnation, and we played evensong. Fantastic stage sound, but no vibe whatsoever. We've had quite a few fans who have acquired frequent visitor status on this trip so far, great to see yez. I can't even think of a thing to say about the gig, so instead I'll tell you an interesting fact or 2. That is I will tomorrow, as my old man's a dustman, he wears a dustman's hat, he wears 'cor blimey trousers, and he lives in a council flat. He looks a proper nana in his great big hobnail boots, and when he goes to put them on he calls them daisy roots. Ah, they don't write 'em like that anymore, do they?
The next morning.... After Aalborg, we had a 20 hour bus and boat trip to Stockholm. It was great waking up the next morning with nothing to do except chill out, as we were still on the bus, haven't done that without feeling really guilty since before kids! Watched a couple of films, glass o' wine, meal in Stockholm, lovely... Back to the sports hall type places here, we were great, somewhat muted response I felt, but maybe the Swedes are a little more reserved than the Danes, Rick had a terrible sound, which was nice (not), had a face like thunder when we came off. In fact, it took him seconds to calm down. You have to put it behind you like that, else you'd get really down. Doesn't bother me, I'm a duck. Neeext... Gothenburg. What a great rock town Gothenburg is, always had a great time, and again we weren't disappointed, how come they have so many sports halls?
Tonto asked a Swede what they do in Sweden. "We shag and drink and fish in the summer." And the winter? "We don't fish." Francis actually did not enjoy himself at all on the gig, but I know he was wrong when he said the band wasn't kicking, I reckon it's the end of his cold coming out. Funny you know, the Swedes do come to gigs to listen, I thought the Danes would have been more of a sober mob...
Last night, at Norrköping we did the first ever gig at an old factory, which is being renovated. All the ingredients for a grim show. Really high ceiling, narrow hall, PA on the stage etc. It was great. Rick's best show of the tour. That's not his opinion, it's a fact, he was the WOMORR on there last night. Matt and me are in fact playing through the pain barrier every night, as we've both got really bad blisters on our hands, all say aah, thanks a lot. It's been yet another trip, part 98 of the tour that never ends, see you in part 99... XXXXXXX
