Unimpressed of West London here. Actually West London is where I'd like to be, but we're stuck at Malaga airport, about a 2 hour delay at present. We just last night played in a place called Jaen, not too far from Seville, a beautiful location, with, I have to say, lots of unbelievable looking girls. Spain has to be my favourite country in Europe, it's a little strange, 2 hours ago driving through the Sierra Nevada, if it had all gone to schedule I'd be in my local Tesco by now buying orange crush or something like that Hmmm... A gig too far, Last German show, Schwäbisch Hall, it was just too hot. In Hold ya back, we pogo around for some bits. This night, Rick's brain told his legs to jump. "Are you mad?" they replied "If you think we're going to do that, you've got another think coming!". It was a good gig, mind, just too much sweat around. Then home for 2 days. As we had 48 hours off, it was far too long to be doing nothing, so we recorded a TV show, which basically took up all of the free time. Doesn't bother me particularly, but try telling an 8-year-old that you're home, but not really. It's the only thing I hate about my profession, missing the saucepans growing up.
On to Portugal, and the town of Abrantes, we were playing at their local free festival, the promoter said that as it was a weekday, he didn't know how many people would turn up. By the time we were due on, maybe there were about 200. By the time we went on, the crowd had swollen a little, to about 25,000, it was rather different, it was my first time in Portugal, and Quo's first visit since the seventies.Shades of Russia in '88 came flooding back when, at the end of Caroline, it was as if TWFMBFC reserves (in fact the second best team in the world) had just equalised against Rotherham reserves, in a game which kicked off at 2.30 on a wet Thursday. NOT a great reaction. Throughout the gig it was a mixture of indifference and polite applause, we've done better shows...
Francis and I travelled overnight with the crew, as we didn't want to fly on a gig day if it wasn't necessary. It also meant I got to my favourite city early. I phoned Andrew from a bar we had been to before, he told me it was as if I had my phone set on gloat mode! I do really really love being in Madrid, the people, the food, the weather, and the general vibe, it's like no other place. To the Macumba, a large rock club type place, and one of the best audiences I can remember. Not that many, about 1500, but they ROCKED! During Whatever You Want, they were actually singing louder than we were playing, that was a first, a brilliant night. Shit sound, but who cares?
We also just heard that there is no time set for our flight, that's cheered me up no end. I'm gonna go, I don't get fed up that often, but I am at this minute... Lots of indifferent greetings, John Victor Edwards, age 47 PS. The flight delay actually lasted a bit longer than we thought it was going to... About 19 hours longer actually. Who said the Millennium bug wasn't having any effects? |
